If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

This is a venue for British Columbians who wish to assist in the collection of signatures for the Citizens’ Initiative to “Fight the HST”.

Signature collection must start as quickly as possible after the Citizen Initiative petition is requested from Elections BC (sometime after Sept. 19). While we cannot begin signature collection yet, we can pre-organize the Petition Teams for each riding.

For the ‘Citizen Initiative’ against the HST to succeed, signatures of 10% of registered voters must be collected from each electoral district within 90 days.

There are 85 electoral districts in the province – therefore we need a minimum of 85 teams. The more signature collectors we sign up, the easier it will be for everyone, and the greater the chance of success.

Please advise if you are willing to be a ‘Captain’ for your riding to help organize the teams to collect signatures, or just wish to assist as a signature canvasser.

An organizer will be in touch shortly.

  1. John Leyland Says:

I am in the construction industry. The HST will add 3.5-4% to our customers end cost for projects. This will likely affect our sales. This a bad tax for our industry. Lets send the the government a message. STOP THE TAX

  2. W.Van Der Ende Says:

I believe that those Liberals that were just elected must defeat this HST thing and tell Gordon Campbell what he can do with his LISE

  3. Stanley J. Stanley Says:

An astonishing and woeful decision for both the federal and provincial governments to do at this when we are looking an endeavouring to support economic renewal. It is a travesty triggered at the worst possible time. Yet more tax on retail customers most adversely affecting tourism.

The voters of British Columbia and Canada show remarkable little interest in going to the polls. With governments like this complacency is only going to decrease the already historically low voter turnout at the next elections.

Democratic governments no longer seem to work.

  4. Stanley J. Stanley Says:

    See above

  5. Chuck Says:

Where are the names or place to sign the petition?

  6. L. Lemieux Says:

Get rid of the dreaded H.S.T. For retired people it’s just be an added expense that we cannot afford.

  7. Brad Says:

The gov’t is in panic mode, because they forgot to “run it like a business” and show a profit….Gov’t is NOT a business, it is looking out for the people of the province first and foremost. Everything else is secondary.

I’m available to help out, as captain or canvasser here in victoria…..soon as the email’s active, I’ll send more contact info.

  8. Civil revolution riot Says:

Ok since when was it a proud thing to do to let lying politicians run over us and lie right in front of our faces since when was it acceptable to give bad and greedy politicians and government staff pay raises when the common people are deciding between food and a roof over there heads maybe its time they take a pay cut maybe we should introduce a government workers tax the common people are sick and tiered of this in some countries actions like this result in an overthrown government and government officials deaths we as a common people demand justice we demand equality the rich have reason to worry because we don’t feel like fitting there bills anymore either axe this tax or reduce the high taxes that are taken out of our psycheques and increase minimum wage to a rate that meets the needs of the hard working people NO MORE LIES were not going to help you anymore were not going to let you get away with your disrespect of good hard working people ! We will fight to the end

  9. Angela Squires Says:

The rubbish that rolls off liberal tongues never ceases to amaze me. I can only surmise that they consider the electorate utterly stupid, presumably because we re-elected them.
HST will remove the 7% pst tax on the cost of machinery and equipment for businesses and obtain that tax income from the poor bloody consumers, you and me; they already do not pay pst on supplies they turn into product. Large companies with vast purchasing power get price breaks on equipment anyway, a lot more than 7%, but small businesses do not. I simply do not believe that business will pass any savings onto consumers or create jobs out of a 7% saving. Meanwhile consumers will be paying 7% more for services. The restaurant industry that employs so many young people will be hardest hit and employee tips will be lower. Other lower paid service industries like hair and beauty salons and alternative health treatments will be hit too. If this regressive tax is implemented the underground economy will grow exponentially. Cash discounts will abound as will non-monetary transactions.

  10. Elizabeth James Says:

Anyone who doubts they will pay much extra in HST need only take note of all their expenses for a couple of weeks, and then calculate an extra 7% on the items previously not subject to PST. Taking last year’s tax return, the service and lease items I found there, I will be paying over $1,000 extra – and that’s before I go to a restaurant, have my hair cut, etc.
More than the $$$ though – I detest being lied to by my government. Didn’t have HST on their May 12th radar? Barnyard droppings!

  11. john prentice Says:

THIS TAX IS TAKING AWAY DISPOSABLE INCOME ON A ALREADY HEAVILY TAXED PROVINCE SHAME ON GORDO THE CAPITALIST, SELFISH,
AUTOCRATIC RULER….I DON’T CONSIDER HIM TO BE A PREMIER OF B.C., AS ALL HIS ACTIONS HAVE BEEN TO SUBVERT THE CITIZENS.
I WISH HE WOULD BE OUSTED OUT OF OFFICE.

  12. Sam Mukhopadhyay Says:

I have been retired for over 10 years, my meagre pension is not indexed and because I early retired my CPP is reduced; my wife never worked and hence no income at all. This HST makes no difference whether you are making $100,000 or less than $20,000. For the rich people like Gordo it makes no difference It hurts people like us the most. We will fight it all the way till god damned Gordo withdraws it and apologizes to British Columbians for lying to public and resigns.

  13. Tom McMahon Says:

Thanks for Making a stand on this Bill. With your help we can defeat Campbell and his Arrogant crew.

  14. T.W. Says:

Good job Bill, now we just need you to take control of a party for the next election. As for the fiberal Gordo, an old fashion lynching would be quite acceptable. Stand up B.C. Tax revolt, general strike……

  15. Julius Vollweiter Says:

Will do whatever I can to help in my spare time to fight the HST

Gordon Campbell is acting more like a dictator than a premier.

  16. Stan Solski Says:

It has been long overdue at least
seven years by my count or more that ‘Rubbie Alco-Bloated Ego’ has sucked the blood out of the seniors and children of this province. He should have been put out a long time ago.

  17. r.e nyirfa Says:

Watching Campbell and Hanson being interviewed after the budget speach reminded me of an episode from a Three Stooges movie. (Campbell (Curly)—”I didn’t know anything about it —- Did you know about it?” Hanson (Moe) If I just look stupid and smile maybe they will not notice that I am here with Stupid!) and the shruging, and posturing, the glazed look in their eyes, like deer caught in a cars headlights would have been funny if it was not for the seriousness of the situation.
At least Curly and Moe could ACT,
Frick and Frack were just plain ‘STUPID LOOKING!
People, the fun is just begining, imagine if you will, tens of thousand of key strokes by the Little People, they are like tiny arrows flying at them, eventually some of them will get through and strike a nerve. Lets not let up on the sniping, remember, apathy is their greatest supporter, don’t give them that satisfaction. Keep up the good work you are doing and encourage everyone you know to do the same.As the guy said “LETS KICK SOME BUTT!!”

  18. r.e.nyirfa Says:

strange isn’t it, all of the years the lie-berals were governing, up until the last election they never had a negative word to say about the PST, now, all of a sudden all of them are telling us how REALLY BAD the PST was for us.?????????????????????????????

  19. Joanne Says:

I think that the only reason the government is trying to impliment this HST is to get the 1.5 billion dollars from the federal government to try and help it’s deficit budget that was just announced. Without this government money was our deficit going to be more? No one has said anything about that yet.. This tax has not helped the other provinces that have enacted it, so why would the liberals think it is going to help here? It isn’t!

  20. Blair Says:

As a right winger and a now former Liberal Party member, I see no real benefit to the HST in actual savings to business except for idealogy. This will cost every citizen including children about $800.00 per year forever. If you live in a strata it is going to hurt real bad.

  21. Brad Says:

Blair, kudos to you. I respect anyone’s political beleifs, even if they aren’t mine. Given the current climate out there, I commend you for admitting publicly that you were a Lib. Party member, and applaud you for standing by your beliefs and becoming a former member!! It takes a bit of Intestinal Fortitude to come out and say that, and I thank you for doing that. Wish more of the disgruntled liberal party members would speak up….because this whole issue isn’t about politics….It’s about what is RIGHT, and (the lack of) HONESTY in our current government.

  22. Ann Morgason Says:

WTG ppl I am proud of the turn out against the HST. Get rid of this government that keeps telling us all lies. We seniors can’t afford anymore tax

    Bill Vander Zalm

    Former Premier Bill Vander Zalm
We can't let this happen. Join me in saying no to the HST

    TOGETHER WE CAN SAVE BC.
BILL VANDER ZALM Has often been called the "Gardener Politician." A family man with his wife Lillian of 53 years, 4 children, all married and in the nursery garden center business operating Art Knapp Plantland Stores, and 9 wonderful grandchildren.

Bill Vander Zalm started the Art Knapp stores in 1953 after running a wholesale bulb and plant business for several years since age 18 when his father had suffered a heart attack.

Bill Vander Zalm entered politics, as a Surrey Councilor in 1965 and in 1969 became the youngest Mayor in Canadas history of the largest Municipality in the British Commonwealth.

In 1975 he entered Provincial politics and became Minister of Human Resources. After eliminating the debt and re-directing that ministry, he became the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Transit and brought to our Province the rapid transit Skytrain system.

In 1981, the Government was forced to introduce a program of restraint and Mr. Vander Zalm was given the most difficult portfolio of Education and effectively brought spending in line with available revenues.

In 1983 Mr. Vander Zalm took a sabbatical from politics when he and Lillian started the Fantasy Garden World, a combination "show Garden", "Children's Play Park" and "Biblical Garden" complete with catering facilities for weddings and other functions.

In 1986 Bill Vander Zalm was chosen the leader of Social Credit, became Premier on July 31st. and was confirmed with a majority government in a general election during October of that year.

There was considerable progress during the years of 1986 - 1991 and the Province went from successive deficits to successive balanced budgets, all income tax surcharges were removed and the sales tax was reduced. But most remarkably, his Government was the first in the history of the Province to actually reduce the Provincial debt, and the British Columbia economy was rated #1 in North America.

In late 1990, after suffering from a number of internal political maneuverings and with great and well organized fanfare, was falsely charged with Conflict of Interest and Breach of Trust for participating with Lillian in the sale of the Fantasy Gardens. He resigned, but was later acquitted of all charges in the BC Supreme Court and found not guilty.

Bill still keeps very busy doing auctions at numerous charity fund-raisers. He is also involved in numerous challenging business enterprises, but after Lillian and family, his big love is tending to his big crop of fragrant Lilac bushes.
