Do business owners know that if their vehicle is in an accident which is 100% the other drivers fault, the business owner has to pay the HST on repairs.? 5 weeks ago my work truck was hit by a driver who fell asleep at the wheel. The other driver admits he fell asleep and has been found 100 % at fault. My vehicle has been in the repair shop since then.Today my vehicle was ready to be picked up,and when I went to get it,they tell me I have to pay $1350.00 HST to get my truck back. When you are an owner operator, if you don’t work you don’t get paid. You still have to pay mortgage, insurance truck payment and all other bills. Yes you may get the HST back on your income tax, but that is next year.If I have to put this on my credit card ,The goverment is not going to give me the 19% interest back. This is just another way the HST is not right. Especially since ICBC is a crown corporation. The guy who hit me should have to pay this. If he hadn’t fallen asleep it wouldnt have cost me a penny, so why should it now.
Are you aware of the following. My husband and I are long haul owner operators. We just bought a trailer off of another guy. We started the payments in 2009. We just found out that we cannot get the trailer that we have paid for unless the origional owner pays the H.S.T. First. Then when we take possesion we have to pay the H.S.T even though we have already paid the G.S.T. and provincial tax. So all the thousands of trucks that have been bought on lease payments as far back as 2004 ( that we know of) when it comes time for the buy out we have to pay the H.S.T even though it was not inacted back then. But because we were making payments on it after the H.S.T we have to pay on the origonal amount. So we get taxed three times. Is that even legal? Now does that also go for all the people that have leased cars are making payments on mortages? etc. Everyone pays the taxes up front in any kind of purchase so now they can turn around and back tax us? Never heard about that while they were sugar coating the H.S.T.
